What to do on your trip to Kenya?

Whether you’re considering traveling to Kenya with children, for a honeymoon, or an adventure with friends, a safari in Kenya is an unforgettable journey for all nature lovers.
There are many ways to travel, and Kenya is one of those destinations where you’ll notice a big difference depending on the type of trip you plan. There are different parks and nature reserves to visit, but it’s important to consider the distances between parks if you don’t want to spend most of your trip to Kenya on the road.
Our recommendation for traveling to Kenya is to take a private and tailor-made safari, designed according to the number of days you have, to experience a unique and exclusive adventure with personalized service. You’ll have greater flexibility and agility to fully enjoy every moment of this incredible adventure. Chartered plane transfers will allow you to make the most of your vacation in Kenya, in addition to providing spectacular views that are hard to forget.

What to do on your trip to Kenya?

We recommend some must-do activities if you’re traveling to Kenya:

  1. Masai Mara: This nature reserve is a “must” on your trip to Kenya. Famous for its incredible wildlife and being the scene of the annual migration of wildebeests and zebras, in Masai Mara you’ll find most of Kenya’s animals. Additionally, you can visit a Maasai village to discover their fascinating culture. And if you’re into photography, you’ll enjoy magical moments with the golden light bathing the plains and animals during their spectacular sunrises and sunsets.
  2. Amboseli: Known for its stunning views of Mount Kilimanjaro and abundance of elephants. Like Masai Mara, it’s close to the border with Tanzania, and you can interact with the Maasai community. It’s a paradise for bird lovers, and you’ll also find lions, buffalos, giraffes, zebras, gazelles, and hyenas.
  3. Lake Naivasha: Located in the Rift Valley, just 90 km from Nairobi, the capital. On its shores, you can see hippopotamuses in their natural habitat. We recommend including this park in your trip to Kenya and boating on its lake dotted with mysterious trees until you reach Crescent Island, where you can go on a walking safari and photograph herbivores up close without fear of being attacked. An experience you shouldn’t miss if you’re traveling to Kenya! Many scenes of the famous movie “Out of Africa” were shot here. The tranquility you’ll find in this small wildlife refuge will allow you to connect with Karen Blixen’s story and understand the peaceful nature of Kenyans.

How Much Does it Cost to Travel to Kenya?

Kenya Travel Budget

  • If you’re wondering how much a trip to Kenya costs, you have to consider that from May to September, safari prices are higher, but it’s worth it if you want to see many concentrations of animals.
  • At Arenatours, we are experts in organized trips to Kenya, both group safaris and private safaris. In both cases, we use 4×4 jeeps and superior or luxury category accommodations, whether lodges or tents.
  • Private safaris are more expensive than group ones but allow greater freedom of movement. Additionally, you can customize the route to your liking by choosing the parks and reserves you want to visit according to your preferences.
  • Our recommendation is to choose accommodations inside the parks to make the most of your time. Especially at sunrise and sunset, when the animals are most active. Airplane transfers between parks will allow you to make the most of your trip to Kenya by avoiding long hours on the road.

Honeymoon in Kenya

Travel to Kenya and Tanzania, Seychelles, or Maldives

  • You can go on a safari in Kenya or combine your trip with Kenya and Tanzania if you have more than 1 week or are passionate about animals.
  • Another option is to combine a safari in Kenya with a few days on the beach. On the south coast of Kenya, you’ll find Diani Beach, a spectacular beach famous for its white, fine sand. It offers a wide range of resorts and water activities, such as snorkeling, diving, and windsurfing.
  • The honeymoon trip Kenya, Tanzania, and Zanzibar is the best option for adventure and beach lovers who have enough days on their vacation.
  • Combining Kenya and the Maldives or Kenya and Seychelles on the same trip for your honeymoon is also a wonderful way to start a new life together.

Other parks for your Kenya safari trip

  • Lake Nakuru: Another of the most accessible parks from Nairobi, also in the Great Rift Valley region, in central Kenya. The view of thousands of pink flamingos creates postcard images, a typical sight on trips to Kenya. Nakuru is also famous for its successful rhino conservation program. You’ll see white and black rhinos.
  • Aberdare: Along with the bamboo forests, the Karuru Falls are one of the park’s highlights. About 180 km northwest of Nairobi, it’s perfect for those who want to hike and go on walking excursions on their trip to Kenya.
  • Samburu: Unlike other reserves in Kenya, Samburu has a more arid landscape, providing a unique backdrop for wildlife observation. It stands out for its unique species, such as the reticulated giraffe and the Grevy’s zebra. The Buffalo Spring National Reserve is very close to the park.

Vaccinations for Traveling to Kenya from UK

Safari trip to Kenya

  • There are no mandatory vaccines for traveling to Kenya from UK.
  • A Yellow Fever vaccination certificate is required for travelers over one year of age who have transited or come from countries at risk of yellow fever transmission.
  • Malaria is transmitted through the bite of a mosquito, so there is no vaccine to prevent it. These mosquitoes only bite at night, so wearing long sleeves and pants is the best protection, along with mosquito repellent. Bed nets are provided in accommodations. Nevertheless, we recommend carrying antimalarial tablets in case the disease is contracted.

When to Travel to Kenya?

What is the best time to travel to Kenya?

Kenya enjoys a tropical climate and the average temperature of the country throughout the year is about 25º, although in the inland mountains, the temperature can drop to 0º.
From December to March is the dry season and the hottest time of the year. These months are fantastic for including a few days of beach in your trip to Kenya and diving in its spectacular coral reefs or climbing Mount Kenya without having to travel with technical clothing. From June to October are the coldest months, with temperatures that can drop to 15º, especially at night or in the early morning. The skies are clearer, and it’s when the animals enter Masai Mara leaving Tanzania behind.
Kenya has 2 rainy seasons: During the “short rains”, from October to November, the sun usually shines during the day and a downpour occurs at sunset. During the “long rains”, in April and May, it usually rains almost every day, and the storms are longer.
Because of its spectacularity, the best time to go on a safari in Kenya is during the Great Migration. However, the rainy months present an added excitement as the animals are more dispersed, taking longer to see each species, increasing the expectation. Also, during these months, Kenya’s green landscape is incredibly beautiful.
